Basement Sale
The Basement Sale has grown into St. Alban’s largest and
longest-running volunteer ministry because of God’s grace and the
willing hearts of His people.
• Marolyn Humm gathered a small group of friends to begin the
Mission Outreach Basement Sale in 1983 to
support the CFCA missions in Chile where her daughter was a volunteer.
$700 was raised. In recent years the sale has filled two buildings and
raised $30,000 each year. With Marolyn’s committed leadership, a
dedicated committee, a mission-driven parish and an understanding
staff, the support for missions has continued to grow. Today many
parishioners sponsor a child…have gone on a mission trip to
Guatemala…helped with the Basement Sale…or donated items to the Sale.
For over 27 years St. Alban Roe has touched tens of thousands of lives through:
• More than 600 CFCA sponsorships…the heart of the ministry
• Numerous mission trips to Guatemala starting in 2000…the soul
of the ministry
- Medical missions
- Construction missions
- Hospital
- School
- Women’s Center
- Homes
- Coffee Plantations
• Bringing God’s Word through Vacation Bible School
• Over $300,000 contributed to missions through the St. Alban Basement
Sale…the hands and feet of the ministry
• 300 volunteers donating countless hours during an intense week of
set-up, clean-up, sorting items and pricing
• Donors recycling usable items for the sale
• Shoppers from the parish, St. Louis county and beyond
• Helpful staff and engaged parish
• Recognition of all parishioners who have participated in the above
Year-round faithfulness
• Mission teams bring back free trade coffee from Guatemala and sell
it to support local farmers.
• The Cradles of Christ Nativity Display raises funds for mission
trips, along with fundraisers such as gift baskets at Christmas and
King’s cakes at Lent.
• Lives are changed in other countries and here at home as we allow
Christ to be at the center of what we do and how we share.
