Young Scholars Program
The Young Scholars Program is designed for Grades 1-5. Students are invited to participate in the program when they meet criteria set forth by St. Alban Roe School. This criterion is reviewed each academic year and invitations are extended for those who qualify. Our program serves students who demonstrate outstanding abilities or potential in the areas of general intellectual ability and innovative qualities. Invitations are issued based on standardized tests, benchmark screenings, and rating scales.
St. Alban Roe School recognizes that some students possess enhanced abilities and/or potential and are, therefore, a unique segment of our student population. The Young Scholar Program will foster student involvement and cooperation, in addition to establishing a productive learning environment.
The Young Scholar Program is a renaissance of interactive, hands-on learning for young leaders eager for knowledge and ready to celebrate the joy of discovery. It is dedicated to implementing techniques and methods through active, inquiry-based activities rooted in critical thinking and problem-solving. This inquiry approach promotes the development of cooperative learning, social competency, communication skills, thinking processes, and independence.
This program will be offered each Friday during the school year, from January through December. Students will attend Mass with their homeroom classes. Students will be divided into Grades 1-2 and Grades 3-5. Each group will attend a 1.5 hour session during the school day.
Participation in the Young Scholars program is a privilege. All participants are expected to have exemplary behavior throughout the school day. Behavior infractions will jeopardize participation in the program.
