St. Alban Roe PSR

Lenten Service Project

Dear PSR Parents,

Change for the Children – We do make difference is our continued theme for this Lenten season. For the fifth year in a row Catholic CHESS & Holy Family Children’s Home will be our focus.

We are asking the PSR students to do odd jobs and chores around the house to earn “change” for the children.  Each week two children will be selected to visit the classrooms and collect the change that is brought to class. We will keep everyone updated by posting the accumulative amount on the wall where the children’s pictures are.

The economic downturn is causing many of us a lot of stress and hardship. If nothing else, please pray for Fr. John Bosco and the children he supports. In Nigeria, babies are being abandoned by their mothers because they can’t take care of themselves, let alone a new born baby. They are being left in bushes, in allies, and tossed in the trash like garbage. If it weren’t for Fr. John Bosco and his dedication to serving God these babies and children wouldn’t make it.

STOP IN AND CHECK OUT THE HALLWAY WALL – SEE NEW FACES AND THE WAYS “CHANGE” DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Sincerely in Christ,                                          CHANGE collection dates:

PSR Curriculum
St. Alban Roe uses The Blest Are We: Faith & Word Edition which is a newly revised program providing a comprehensive thematic curriculum that incorporates the Four Pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in the structure of every chapter, and every unit, at each grade level.  With this approach, a thorough understanding of Catholic teaching is nurtured year to year to enable children not only to learn their Catholic Faith, but to love and embrace it.

This new program encourages children and their families to live their Catholic faith by providing families with a thorough understanding of our Catholic faith.  Blest Are We covers the following themes: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; Eucharist and Reconciliation; the Church: Morality; the Sacraments; and the Old Testament.  The lives of the saints and real-life examples of Christian Witness are used to encourage the growth of a Gospel centered moral conscience and Christian discipleship.  In addition, children and families are also introduced to many of the ministries and vocations within the Parish through a new feature that encourages living the Catholic faith through active participation.

·        PSR supports parents as primary educators

·        PSR emphasizes that Jesus is Lord and that Eucharist is the center of our faith.

·        PSR emphasizes sharing God’s words by incorporating scripture in class context and in prayer.

·        PSR builds community through service and stewardship.

·        Sacramental preparation is initiated into the curriculum for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.

·        Students are encouraged to share their faith with their community.
